NAIROBI - Nobel Laureate Prof. Wangari Maathai is claiming her life is in danger after receiving death threats from a group identifying itself as the outlawed Mungiki.

Maathai said that she received a text message warning her, "you have been opposed to the government and we have noted that and we will be coming for your head." The text message added a Swahili rider, "chunga kichwa chako..." (Look after your head). Maathai said that she received the warning two hours after midnight Tuesday.

The Mungiki militia has been making a slow comeback on the Kenyan scene for the last few weeks.
