This Weekend, We're Netflix and Chilling With Mea Culpa, the New Legal Thriller From Tyler Perry

Kelly Rowland produces and stars in the sexy new legal thriller Mea Culpa that's just dropped and got Nairobi as a unit trooping to Netflix.

This latest project from writer, producer, and director Tyler Perry explores desire, sexual chemistry, and temptation – all taking place during a murder case. The film's synopsis reads: "A criminal defence attorney named Mea Harper (played by Kelly Rowland) takes on the case of a seductive artist accused of murdering his girlfriend, but when burning desire takes hold, things get hot – and dangerous."

Appearing alongside Kelly Rowland are Trevante Rhodes, Zyair Malloy, Nick Sagar, Sean Sagar, Shannon Thornton, and Kerry O'Malley. Kelly has been open about how much she loved working with co-star Trevante, particularly how hard he worked and the chemistry they shared on screen. "Trevante is a dream. I feel very lucky to have shared space with him on camera, and I admire his work ethic," she said. "And when we met, it was chemistry."

Director Tyler Perry has also spoken out in an interview about how brilliant Kelly was as a producer, let alone her acting chops on screen. "She had great ideas from the very first day we spoke about the role," he said. "She's like, ‘What do you think about this? What about the lighting being like this? What about this and what about...’ I mean, she was just brilliant at every turn of understanding how to do this. I think that not only is she a leading lady, but she's an incredible producer that I'd work with anytime.”

He also had a lot to say about the unpredictable nature of the movie. SPOILER: the twists and turns may lead to multiple watches. "You have to watch two or three times to catch what's happening, because you'll see that in the very beginning, you're being told everything as you go,” he explained. "But by the time you get to the end, you're like, 'Whoa, I didn't see that coming.' But if you watch it again, it's like, 'Oh, that's why she did that. That's why she said that. That's what that look is about.' So yeah, I'm dropping crumbs all the way."
