Trump and Epstein: A Dubious Friendship
Trump’s acquaintance with Epstein dates back to the late 1980s. The depth of their friendship, however, is a matter of debate.

Unearthed footage from 1992 shows Trump and Epstein joking and ogling women at a party at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort. Photographs from 1992 and 1997 further document their interactions. In a 2002 interview, Trump described Epstein as a “terrific guy” and remarked on their mutual appreciation for beautiful women, noting Epstein’s preference for the younger side.

Despite Trump’s spokesperson claiming that allegations regarding Trump’s relationship with Epstein had been "thoroughly debunked," the court documents released in early 2024 reignited public interest. In February 2024, Florida governor Ron DeSantis signed legislation allowing the release of grand-jury evidence from a 2006 investigation into Epstein’s abuse of underage girls. The initial investigation and subsequent legal maneuvers were heavily criticized for their leniency towards Epstein, sparking further demands for transparency and accountability.

Trump’s Position on Declassifying Epstein Files
When asked about declassifying Epstein-related documents, Trump’s response was hesitant. While he showed willingness to declassify files on 9/11 and the JFK assassination, he expressed reservations about the Epstein files, citing concerns over potentially “phony stuff.” This cautious approach raises questions about the potential repercussions such documents could have on prominent figures, including Trump himself.
