The Legacy of Fear: How the Shadow of Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Shaped Kenya's Political Landscape In the annals of Kenya's political history, the events of 1969 stand out as a defining moment marked by fear, coercion, and manipulation. The political tension surrounding Jaramogi Oginga Odinga's candidature led to a series of oath-taking ceremonies in Gatundu that forever altered the fabric of Kenyan society. Understanding this historical context is crucial, especially when contemporary politicians attempt to invoke these dark chapters for political gain. The Fear of Jaramogi and the Birth of the Gatundu Oath The roots of the infamous Gatundu oath can be traced back to the fear and propaganda surrounding Jaramogi Oginga Odinga, the former vice-president and then-leader of the opposition. By 1969, the political landscape in Kenya was charged with tension. The assassination of Cabinet Minister Tom Mboya on 5th July 1969 had already set a volatile backdrop. Within this context, Pr

Rift Valley MPs Mock Ruto's Jubilee Asili Party.

Turns out the Jubilee Asili Party is just another name for the Tangatanga faction of the Jubilee Party. Ainabkoi MP William Chepkut is not mincing his words about this.

Details emerged Thursday that Deputy President William Ruto formed a new party, unimaginatively calling it Jubilee Asili, at a time when he is clearly unwanted in the Jubilee party.

But Chepkut is not convinced that the new party will take the nation by storm as imagined, observing instead that it is just a house to accommodate Ruto's disgruntled allies who have so far been homeless and left to operate as Tangatanga, going right ahead to christen the new party with an old name: Tangatanga Club.

"Jubilee Asili is the new Tangatanga Club in town," he said in a tweet after the details leaked.

The existence of the party was revealed by communication strategist and close Ruto ally Dennis Itumbi who claimed that it has even established an office within Nairobi. In a tweet, Itumbi said that Ruto used the party offices to hold a meeting with his allies who have been rudely ejected from Parliamentary Committees by the Jubilee Party over their misguided allegiance.

"DP William Ruto currently meeting all the recently dewhipped Legislators at The Jubilee Asili Centre. Message - let us now play our role on other matters now that you are free of Parliamentary Leadership responsibilities. Move from...BOARDROOMS and interact with the Hustler Nation," he wrote.

This development comes at a time when President Uhuru Kenyatta's wing of the Jubilee Party seems to be doing everything within means to frustrate Ruto and his allies, with the DP being accused of defying Uhuru. This has seen his allies kicked out of parliamentary leadership positions over refusing to toe the party line. It is no secret that the DP has been affected in no small way by the ongoing purge of his lieutenants.

However, he has remained largely silent on his troubles, leaving all the talking to close allies like Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen and his counterpart Aaron Cheruiyot of Kericho.
